I have read and loved four of Antoine Laurain's previous books: The President's Hat, The Red Notebook, French Rhapsody, and the Portrait. They are charming fairy tales for adults. Vintage 1954 follows in the same mode. The four main characters find themselves transported from 2017 Paris to 1954 Paris after drinking wine of 1954 vintage. The singer Edith Piaf, the poet Jacques Prevert, and the film director Francois Truffaut are among those they meet. But more than meeting celebrities is in store for the time travelers. This book made me want to forget my troubles, grab a baguette, and settle down in the warm summer grass with a bottle of Beaujolais.
